Description
"Belshazzar's Feast" is a painting created by Rembrandt van Rijn between 1634 and 1639. It depicts the story from the Bible, in which King Belshazzar of Babylon throws a feast during which he uses the Jewish vessels that were taken from the Temple in Jerusalem. During the feast, mysterious handwriting appears on the wall, which is interpreted as a warning of the imminent fall of the kingdom and the king's death. The painting showcases Rembrandt's mastery of lighting and shadow, as well as his ability to capture powerful emotions in his subjects.
