From PowerPoint to poster board
Most academic posters arrive as a PowerPoint file made at the wrong page size. That is fine, it is what the check is for. Here is how a poster goes through the studio.
Send the file
A PDF exported at the final page size is ideal. A PowerPoint file works too, tell us the size the conference asks for and your deadline.
We check it
Page size against printed size, image resolution, fonts and margins. If something will print badly, you hear about it before we press go, not after.
Print and finish
Printed on 170gsm silk or 200gsm photo satin with calibrated colour. Matt lamination costs extra and can be done the same day, worth it if the poster has to survive more than one outing.
Collect or delivery
Collect it rolled in a free tube from our studio on Washington Street, G3, 8am to 8pm any day. Conference posters go to the SEC, your hotel reception or conference booth free, and other delivery is free on orders over £50.

Setting up your poster file
Set the page size to the final print size before you start designing. In PowerPoint that is Design, then Slide Size, then Custom: 84.1cm by 118.9cm for A0 portrait, 59.4cm by 84.1cm for A1. Designing at 16:9 and scaling up later is the single most common reason a poster arrives blurry.
Keep images at 150dpi or better at the size they will print, leave at least 10mm between your content and the edge, and export a PDF rather than sending the working file if you can. What students and researchers ask before sending a poster to print.
What size should an academic poster be?
Most UK conferences ask for A0 portrait (841mm wide by 1189mm tall), with A1 (594mm by 841mm) the next most common. Always check the conference instructions before you design anything, because a landscape board will not take a portrait poster. We print both sizes in either orientation.
Can you print my poster from PowerPoint?
Yes. The best route is to set your PowerPoint slide to the final print size, then export a PDF and send us that. If you would rather send the PowerPoint file itself, we will convert it and send you a proof to approve before anything is printed.
How quickly can you print an academic poster?
Tell us the deadline when you send the file and we will tell you straight whether we can hit it. A0 and A1 posters are printed in-house in Glasgow, so a couple of working days is comfortable. If the conference is tomorrow, or the poster session is this afternoon, phone us on 0141 345 5841 to book before you order. How much does an A0 academic poster cost?
A0 is £50, A1 is £40 and A2 is £30 for a single poster on 170gsm silk, and two or more posters take £5 off each. The SEC Conference Poster Kit comes with it at no extra cost. Heavier stock or lamination is quoted on top, and you will have a fixed price within the working day. Same-day and next-day posters are priced on the phone, so call 0141 345 5841 with your deadline.
Which paper is best for a conference poster?
Our 170gsm silk is the usual choice: it reads clearly under bright hall lighting without glare. If your poster leans on photographs or imaging figures, 200gsm photo satin reproduces them better. Add matt lamination if the poster will travel or be reused.
Will you check my file before printing?
Yes, every poster is checked before it goes to print. The problems we catch most often are a PowerPoint page still set to 16:9 rather than A0, logos placed at low resolution, and text running too close to the edge. We flag anything we find and wait for your go-ahead.
Can I collect near the university, or do you deliver?
Collection is from our studio at Unit 204b, 36-38 Washington Street, Glasgow G3 8AZ, minutes from the SEC and close to the M8. The front desk is open for collections 8am to 8pm, seven days a week, Saturday and Sunday included. We also deliver across Glasgow, free on orders over £50, so a poster can go straight to your department.
Can you deliver my poster to my hotel or the venue?
Yes, and for conference posters it is free. We deliver to your hotel reception, the SEC or your conference booth. Give us the hotel and your name and we leave the poster with reception, so it is waiting when you check in.

We aim to get it right first time. If anything is wrong on our side, we reprint it free, straight away. You are also welcome to inspect the poster at the studio before you take it away.
Can you laminate, mount or print on fabric?
Yes, at extra cost. Lamination can be done the same day. Mounting on board is to order, so it is not a same-day job. Fabric posters are available to order too, they are made for us by a trade partner rather than printed in the studio, so they are not same day either.
