From PowerPoint to poster board
Most academic posters arrive as a PowerPoint file made at the wrong page size. That is fine, it is what the check is for. Here is how a poster goes through the studio.
Send the file
A PDF exported at the final page size is ideal. A PowerPoint file works too, tell us the size the conference asks for and your deadline.
We check it
Page size against printed size, image resolution, fonts and margins. If something will print badly, you hear about it before we press go, not after.
Print and finish
Printed on 170gsm silk or 200gsm photo satin with calibrated colour. Matt lamination on request if the poster has to survive more than one outing.
Collect or delivery
Collect rolled from our studio on Washington Street, G3, or have it delivered. Delivery is free on orders over £50.

Setting up your poster file
Set the page size to the final print size before you start designing. In PowerPoint that is Design, then Slide Size, then Custom: 84.1cm by 118.9cm for A0 portrait, 59.4cm by 84.1cm for A1. Designing at 16:9 and scaling up later is the single most common reason a poster arrives blurry.
Keep images at 150dpi or better at the size they will print, leave at least 10mm between your content and the edge, and export a PDF rather than sending the working file if you can. What students and researchers ask before sending a poster to print.
What size should an academic poster be?
Most UK conferences ask for A0 portrait (841mm wide by 1189mm tall), with A1 (594mm by 841mm) the next most common. Always check the conference instructions before you design anything, because a landscape board will not take a portrait poster. We print both sizes in either orientation.
Can you print my poster from PowerPoint?
Yes. The best route is to set your PowerPoint slide to the final print size, then export a PDF and send us that. If you would rather send the PowerPoint file itself, we will convert it and send you a proof to approve before anything is printed.
How quickly can you print an academic poster?
Tell us the deadline when you send the file and we will tell you straight whether we can hit it. A4 and A3 handouts are printed in-house and can be ready the same day. A0 and A1 posters need more notice, so if the conference is this week, phone us on 0141 345 5841 before you order.
How much does an A0 academic poster cost?
Poster orders start from a £30 minimum order value. The exact price depends on the size and the paper you choose, so send the file or the spec and we will reply with a fixed quote within the working day.
Which paper is best for a conference poster?
Our 170gsm silk is the usual choice: it reads clearly under bright hall lighting without glare. If your poster leans on photographs or imaging figures, 200gsm photo satin reproduces them better. Add matt lamination if the poster will travel or be reused.
Will you check my file before printing?
Yes, every poster is checked before it goes to print. The problems we catch most often are a PowerPoint page still set to 16:9 rather than A0, logos placed at low resolution, and text running too close to the edge. We flag anything we find and wait for your go-ahead.
Can I collect near the university, or do you deliver?
Collection is from our studio at Unit 204b, 36-38 Washington Street, Glasgow G3 8AZ, a short walk from the SEC and close to the M8. We also deliver across Glasgow, free on orders over £50, so a poster can go straight to your department.
